SightSeeing


Since an important part of any trip is to see and enjoy the place in which you are ministering, various popular spots for sightseeing can be included. These are:

  • Times Square - "The Crossroads of the World" NYC's famous theater and entertainment district. Free to walk around and look. Dinner at a sit down restaurant in Times Square is approximately $20-30 per person.
    • Empire State Building - Admission is $14 for Youth 6-12, $20 for Teens and Adults, and $18 for Seniors 62 and over www.esbnyc.com/tickets
    • Fifth Avenue - Famous stores such a Saks, Tiffany's, The Apple Store, H & M, Disney, Trump Tower, NBA Store and St. Patrick's Cathedral

    • "Top of the Rock" Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center (Best bird's eye view of New York City) -- A great view of Mid-town Manhattan, Central Park, the Empire State Building, and the rivers. Admission $21 for adults and $14 for children. Group rates available for groups of 20 or more. Must schedule trip in advance at www.topoftherocknyc.com
    • Central Park - Strawberry Fields, gondolas, jugglers, street musicians, the Great Lawn, disco roller skaters, boats (rentals), ice skating (winter only), chess players and more. www.centralpark.com
    • Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island - $27 per adult, $20 for seniors and $15 for children. Admissinos fee includes ferry to both destinations. www.statuereservations.com
    • Wall Street (Stock Exchange closed to public since 9/11)

    • South Street Seaport - Shopping and spectacular view of Manhattan on the pier by the Brooklyn Bridge www.southstreetseaport.com
    • Ground Zero and World Trade Center Memorial - Free.
    • United Nations - $16 for adults, $11 for students (with student ID) and seniors, and $9 for children. Group reservations required, no discounts. www.un.org/tours

    • Broadway Shows - Many good productions on and off-Broadway. Group rates available. Discount tickets available at TKTS in Times Square. Contact the individual theatres for group reservations. www.broadway.com
    • Brooklyn Bridge - Pedestrian walkway with a great view of Manhattan from the South, especially at dusk.
    • Museums - Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), The Guggenheim, Whitney Museum and many more (Admission Prices vary from $12 and up group rates are available. Several Museums have free admission on certain evenings or suggested donations for admission. www.ny.com/museums
    • New York Botanical Garden - Located in the Bronx, it is one of the Oldest and Largest Botanical Gardens in the World. Admission is $17 for adults and $15 for students and seniors (free all day every Wednesday). Additional charges for special exhibits. www.nybg.org
    • Bronx Zoo and Wildlife Conservation Park - The Largest Metropolitan Zoo in the US, with over 6,000 animals. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $11 for children. Free or "suggested donation" every Wednesday. www.bronxzoo.com

A typical sight-seeing day could begin at Central Park and Fifth Avenue. Walk through Rockefeller to Times Square. Go to Chinatown and Ground Zero. Spend sunset at the Empire State Building. Then, back to Times Square at night. Enjoy!
