Ministry of Care
Some people think that sending a truckload of food or clothing to inner city communities is the best way to help the poor. But sadly this often merely places a band-aid on a festering wound that has plagued that family and that community for generations. What happens after that truck is gone? Do they wait for another one? Or will somebody empower them toward real transformation?
The Ministry of Care at The Harvest Center meets the needs of the body in healthy ways, seeking long-term results in the lives of people that set them on the course to their destinies. Based on the New Testament example, the needs of the body are met by a body who cares and genuinely loves. It's Christ's love that takes care of one another, responding to felt needs with methods that bring change.
The Ministry of Care at The Harvest Center deliberately works to address the sources of the problems and bring about a changed world view and a changed lifestyle. It is a mission to empower one person and one family at a time.
We are concerned about the whole person - his or her physical needs, emotional needs, family needs, spiritual needs, as well as future and destiny - because we believe God is concerned about the whole person and has an ordained destiny in the life of each individual. True "benevolence" seeks to set a person on the road to their destiny!
The results of empowered lives - of parents being able to buy their own children Christmas presents instead of receiving a well-intentioned hand-out, of a former drug dealer who was guided through the process of getting an honest job, of a single mother asking for food, who now has a good job and is thrilled to provide for her children -- demonstrate the power of Christ in action in the felt-needs of people through His church.
Person by person and family by family this devasted inner city community of the South Bronx is changing - to the glory of God . . . and any other community can change this way, too! Learn more.
