What is Hope for the City?
Hope for the City is a concentrated effort by the body of Christ to reclaim communities and pastor the streets again. Its goal is for the Church to be relevant in the community around it and affect transformational change by bringing people to faith in Jesus Christ, empowering them to fulfill their God-given destinies, and equipping them to be catalysts of positive change in their own neighborhoods.
Hope for the City implements the strategy of Urban Harvest Ministries:
- Establish prayer initiatives for cities.
- Equip existing and emerging leaders to implement strategies that will empower the church to reach the unchurched and equip urban citizens to fulfill their individual destinies.
- Lead in strategic outreach which focuses on building relationships that lead to salvation and discipleship and invites urban citizens into a process of faith-based empowerment.
- Engage short-term mission teams in strategic outreach providing opportunities for life-change while serving long-term strategies in urban communities.
- Develop long-range partnerships for community transformation.
Hope for the City is an ongoing mission with Isaiah 61 at its core.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me to bring good news to the poor...
bringing beauty from ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair.
...They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities long ago destroyed. They will revive them, though they have been empty for many generations.
Transcending boundaries separating suburban and urban believers, church denominations, and races, Hope for the City unites people to rejoice in a Gospel open to all and to bring the Gospel with relevance and love to the people around them. Through this effort, Christ is exalted on the streets of cities and God's people experience a larger and closer faith community than they had known before.
