FAQ's

Q. What are the long-term goals of UHM?
A. We believe that our human methods fall short, but that God is able to change communities and cities as He raises up a people who live holy and passionately seek His face. As they gain Christ's vision for the lost and hurting around them, respond obediently to His voice, and pray with audacious faith, they invite - and receive - the presence and favor of God. His presence and favor are the game changers in breaking strongholds, resurrecting hope and life, and changing the spiritual climate of a community and city.

UHM leads prayer initiatives and strategic outreach and equips and empowers churches and their leaders to ignite community transformation one person and one family at a time.

Q. Is there a scripture that is central to your theology?
A. Isaiah 61 is central to our theology of empowering the poor. Jesus quoted a portion of this scripture in his home synagogue: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me to bring good news to the poor . . . bringing beauty from ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair." This is the hope, and a primary goal, of ministry in the city.

This passage also speaks of community transformation through those who have been empowered through Christ: "They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities long ago destroyed. They will revive them, though they have been empty for many generations." This message is echoed in Isaiah 58:12 - "This generation will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. They will be called the repairers of the breach and the restorers of the streets to dwell in."

May God raise up repairers and restorers in cities across our nation and the world!

Q. How is UHM funded?
A. UHM is funded through individuals, churches, and businesses who share the burden and excitement about empowerment and transformation in cities. As the opportunities for UHM reach urban communities have greatly increased, so have the financial needs. UHM invites you to become a part of what God is doing to turn communities and cities upside down for Christ and to reach the lost and hurting with the transforming grace of the Gospel.

Q. How can I be involved?
A. There are many ways for you to be involved as a member of the prayerforce, as a partner in ministry, or in serving opportunities in the city! Go to Partner with UHM for more information on how you can join us in changing lives and communities one person and one family at a time!
